How To Configure Wake On WAN on Windows

Using WOW (Wake On WAN) it is possible to wake up your computer using the Unified Remote app from a mobile data connection. It is the same as WOL (Wake On LAN) however not on your home network. This requires some configuration as described below.

1

This feature was recently added, so make sure you download the latest version of Unified Remote Server (3.1+) and have the latest version of the app (3.1.6+).

2

If you already have saved servers in the app, then make sure you re-add your servers. This allows to app to receive the required information needed for performing WOW.

3

Make sure Windows, BIOS, network card, etc all are configured to allow Wake On LAN. Refer to the Wake On LAN tutorial for more details.

4

Next, make sure your router is configured to pass WOW messages to the computer you wish to wake up. For example, add port forwarding for UDP port 9 to your computers local IP. Google your specific router for more help.
